Death Warmed Over.....

I feel like death warmed over.......even admiring my collection of skull, my cute purple skull pj's are not pulling me out of this one.  I know I am not really going to pass on at this time due to my sinus infection, or the pressure in my chest that feels as if a coffin landed on me, or the raging body aches, but seriously can someone remind me again!!!!!  Being sick sucks..........can everyone just start keeping their damn germs to themselves!!!!!!

Skull & Wings

Did you ever wonder how the Skull & Wing started........dates all the way back to well the beginning.....Some architecture from the Romanesque(Norman) days had skull/wing carved into stone.......you started seeing more in the 17th and 18th centuries on headstones....."Memento Mori" (Remember Death) I believe this represents not absolute death, but more of a transitioning of spirit, rebirth!!!!  The Skull & Wings have been referred to as Death's Head or Winged Death....the fleeting nature of death!!!!  Motorcycle clubs started adopting this symbol......because as we all know they are the bad boys, of the bad boys (sexy!!!)  Harley Davidson........what emblem do they operate with?.... Skull/Wings.......Look to our military ...... major bad asses I believe the Army in the early forties took on this symbol!!!!!!!  Seriously take a stroll through our history of Rock n' Roll what is a favorite symbol?  yep you guessed it Skull/Wings.....need I say more.

Skulls are Not Creepy!!!!!

Okay let me just say Skulls are not creepy!!!!!!!! They are  facinating, each holds a unique beauty......then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder:))  I personally believe everyone should own at least one skull in their lifetime!!!!!!! I mean come on it can be a freakin' candle skull..........you do not have to go out and dig up a grave to get one......or take someone out for a skull.....now that would be a bit creepy!!!!!! I collect skulls in all shapes, form, and fashion.....recently I have started really looking at sugar skulls......Dia de los Muertos ( Day of the Dead)  the history of the Day of the Dead is a very interesting holiday celebrated in central/southern Mexico....usually during the chilly days  November 1 & 2.    Sugar art was introduced to the New World by Italian missionaries in the 17th century.  By the way Sugar skulls represented a departed soul!!!!!  The departed's name is written across the front of the forehead, and placed on the home ofrenda or gravestone to honor the return of a spirit.

Check it out for yourself some folks say umm isn't that taking a walk on the Dark side? Nope in my opion just opening yourself up to some cultural history, and a different way to look at Skulls.
